               Experience 

 

               2003 – 2004      STANFORD HOSPITAL AND CLINICS, Intern, Community and Patient Relations, Stanford, CA.

               Sole responsibility for updating and preparing the patient information directory and brochure, for preparing    

               and posting the patient rights in the appropriate languages, for developing and implementing Confidentiality Campaign.

               Deeply involved in preparing for Stanford’s JCAHO site visit as a member of Patient Rights Chapter. Working on restructuring

               Smoking Cessation program, rewriting the instruction booklet for the smoking cessation advisors, utilizing volunteers to provide

               written and video information, bedside counseling and phone follow-up to patients that wish to quit smoking.

 

                2001 – 2003      INTERCULTURAL STUDENT LIFE OFFICE, Student manager, Central College, Pella, IA.

                                                        Managed 6 students.  Responsible for organizing 20 educational and cultural events per 1 school year to promote cultural diversity at Central

                                          College campus.  Organized 5 trips for international students per school year.  Assisted with managing and organizing annual national White

                                          Privilege Conference (600 – 700 attendees). 

 

                   Summer 2002   COMMUNITY BREAST HEALTH PROJECT, Summer intern, Palo Alto, CA.
                                          Evaluated and documented Patser Program that supports the underserved patients financially. Served as a translator for a client who spoke

                                          only German and needed crisis counseling.  Developed educational programs for breast cancer patients and their families.

 

               Fall 2000             THE UNIVERSITY CLINIC OF VIENNA (AKH), Fall intern, Vienna, Austria.
                                          Assisted Prof. Thomas Fischer and Dr. Angela Zacharachiewitz in research focused on inflammatory markers in asthmatic children using the

                                          technique of induced sputum.  Did pilot work for this study, performed lung function testing, and sputum induction.  Recruited pediatric patients

                                          and explained to their parents the significance of this study.

  

               Spring 2001         CENTER OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, Student tutor, Central College, Pella, IA.   

                Tutored advanced German and German literature and introductory biology class.

 

Community service

                  Summer 2001       GALT COMMUNITY CONCILIO, Galt, CA.
                                            Assisted in finding needed resources for Hispanic immigrants.

                   Summer 2000        DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE, Catholic Hospital “U Boromejek,” Prague, Czech Republic.
                                          Conducted basic medical procedures such as taking blood samples, measuring blood   

                            pressure, and helping to feed and clean patients.

Distinguished Graham Scholar Award ‘03 - Awarded to a student who is distinguished in both, academic performance and in promise of future service to worldwide societies (this honor is given to 1 senior student out of a class of 400 who is elected by faculty members), Central College, Pella, IA, April 2003.
Certificate of achievement for completion of a Senior Honors Project – Research focused on the political, social and economic living circumstances of the German-speaking Jewish intellectuals who lived in Prague between 1890 and 1920. (The Senior Honors project is completed by 10 – 20 seniors out of 400 each school year.  During two semesters each senior honors student completes his/her research project and submits a 50-page thesis.)  Central College, Pella, IA, April 2003.
